Positive and Negative Effects
L'Oréal has had positive and negative effects on countries that it inhabit.
Negative:
In 2011, located in the UK, L'Oréal was forced to pull the ad campaigns featuring Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts and supermodel Christy Turlington when Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson lodged a complaint about that the images were overly airbrushed. The controversies rose because the supermodel and actor do not look flawless in real life and they are previewing a negative image for women.
This is unethical because L'Oréal is creating an image of women that is not possible. Although we are capable of recognizing that images are manipulated with computers, we perceive the images as real and compare ourselves with them.
"L'Oréal UK admitted that Turlington's image had been "digitally retouched to lighten the skin, clean up makeup, reduce dark shadows and shading around the eyes, smooth the lips and darken the eyebrows". However, it claimed there were still signs of ageing, such as crow's feet, and that the image "accurately illustrated" the achieveable results."
Swinson claimed,"Pictures of flawless skin and super-slim bodies are all around, but they don't reflect reality.Excessive airbrushing and digital manipulation techniques have become the norm, but both Christy Turlington and Julia Roberts are naturally beautiful women who don't need retouching to look great. This ban sends a powerful message to advertisers – let's get back to reality."

Ethical Issues
Some ethical issues that arise for a company competing internationally in relation to Society:
- Societal Issues: pollution caused to the environment is an international issue because clean air, water, and soil are essential for humans, animals, and plants to survive. L'Oréal must take this into consideration to a great extent when they expand into developing countries, like Africa because people demand natural products and are overprotective on their lands. Or Brazil, whom take pride in their forests and nature, so when companies expand, and are unethical, the citizens will use their voices and protest. And without the support of the people, a business cannot generate revenue and a profit.
- Consumer Issues: product and safety standards. Laboratories must take into considerations the products they introduce and the safety. Having a reputation where a brand is constantly pulling products off selves is damaging to the reputation.
- Employees Issues: Workplace Health and Safety standards must be up to date; companies must ensure safe practices in the workplace and no illegal practices are happening. Equality issues should be monitored; in some countries women are shown to be weak and they say "keep a woman bare feet and pregnant. And also women are usually paid less for the same jobs men are doing, it is strongly evident here in North America. Human Rights Issues obligates a comany to make sure there is no assult or abuse towards men, women and children. Labour issues include ensuring jobs are stable and there should not be any unfair layoffs becasue a company in another country is not performing. Lastly is Stockholder issues: it is important that the company does not hide anything under the rug and all stakeholder are given their fair share and no bribery is present.
- Corruption and dumping: this is the stage where gifts and bribes are given in order to sign contracts or to win over inspectors.
